MTS Maritime Transport Statistics

The MTS notification is used to provide maritime transport statistics on passenger traffic related to a port call at a Finnish port.

Submit an MTS notification if the port call includes information on passenger numbers or the number of passenger cars and buses associated with passengers. Information is reported, for example, for cruise traffic and passenger traffic on Ro-Ro and RoPax vessels. The notification is not required if there are no passengers, passenger vehicles (passenger cars or buses), or empty transport units on board.

The MTS notification is submitted in connection with both the arrival and departure notification. In the arrival MTS notification, report the Port of loading, that is, the port from which the passengers are arriving. When submitting the departure notification, update the same notification with the Port of discharge, that is, the port to which the passengers are travelling.

Empty transport units, other cargo, and vehicles used for freight transport are not reported in the MTS notification. These must be reported in the CGA and CGD notifications.

Ship cargo unloading

Port of loading

Provide the port where passengers boarded the vessel or where passenger cars and buses associated with passengers were loaded onto the vessel. Each port of loading must be reported on a separate row.

Use separate rows when:

• passengers boarded in different ports
• passenger cars or buses were loaded in different ports

Port of loading DE-047-01

Search for and select the port (UN/LOCODE) where the passengers boarded the vessel or where passenger cars and buses associated with passengers were loaded onto the vessel.

Number of passengers excluding cruise passengers DE-034-06

Enter the number of passengers excluding cruise passengers. This includes, for example, passengers travelling on Ro-Ro and RoPax services.

Specified Cargo

Only report cargo types related to passengers arriving at the port:

• 52 – Passenger cars, motorcycles and accompanying trailers/caravans
• 53 – Passenger buses

Each cargo type must be reported on a separate row.

Type of cargo DE-045-17

Select the cargo type of the cargo unloaded in accordance with the nomenclature in Annex II to Directive 2009/42/EC.

Available options:

• 52 – Passenger cars, motorcycles and accompanying trailers/caravans
• 53 – Passenger buses

Enter the total number of passenger cars or buses associated with passengers unloaded at the port.

Cruise passengers

Complete the following information only for cruise traffic (not scheduled services).

Number of cruise passengers DE-034-07

Enter the number of persons travelling on a cruise ship used for tourism purposes. This information is always reported at the start or end of the cruise. For other ports along the itinerary, only the number of cruise excursion passengers is reported.

Number of cruise excursion passengers DE-034-08

Enter the number of cruise passengers who go ashore at the port as part of their cruise while retaining accommodation on board.

Provide the port where passengers disembark from the vessel or where their passenger cars and buses are unloaded from the vessel. Each destination port must be reported on a separate row.

• passengers disembark in different ports
• passenger cars or buses are unloaded in different ports

Search for and select the port (UN/LOCODE) where passengers disembark from the vessel or where their passenger cars and buses are unloaded from the vessel.

Enter the total number of passenger cars or buses loaded during the port call.

Example: Multiple ports of loading and discharge

A vessel arrives in Turku from Stockholm via Åland. Of the passengers arriving in Turku, 200 boarded in Stockholm and 50 in Mariehamn.
