WAS Advance Notification for Waste Delivery to Port Reception Facilities
WAS Advance Notification for Waste Delivery to Port Reception Facilities
The WAS notification is used to provide advance information on waste that the vessel intends to deliver to port reception facilities in a Finnish port, as well as waste remaining on board and information on previous and future waste deliveries. A WAS notification must also be submitted when the vessel does not intend to deliver waste during the port call.
Read more about the reception of ship-generated waste: Traficom – Waste delivery to port reception facilities.
The vessel shall deliver all waste carried on board to port reception facilities before departing from the port. If only part of the waste is delivered, the vessel must demonstrate in the notification that sufficient storage capacity remains for the waste retained on board and the waste expected to be generated before the next port of call. This information is provided in the fields Waste maximum dedicated storage capacity (DE-071-04), Waste amount retained volume (DE-071-05) and Waste estimated amount to be generated volume (DE-071-07).
An actual waste delivery is reported using a WAR notification (Waste receipt upon arrival).

Exceptions – when a WAS notification is not required
A WAS notification does not need to be submitted, even if the vessel delivers waste to the port, when:
- the vessel has a gross tonnage of less than 300
- the vessel is a fishing vessel
- the vessel is a pleasure craft of less than 45 metres in length or a pleasure craft authorised to carry no more than 12 passengers
- the vessel has been granted an exemption from the waste delivery obligation and notification requirement by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom

Required fields
Remarks DE-003-01
Complete this field if you wish to provide additional information related to the notification that cannot be reported in other fields. You may, for example, provide information on an exception or other clarifying information relating to ship-generated waste, waste delivery or the processing of the notification.
If you have nothing specific to report, leave the field empty. Do not repeat information already provided in other fields.
Waste last delivery date DE-068-03
Enter the date on which any type of waste was most recently delivered from the vessel to a port.
The date must be the same as or earlier than the arrival time of the current port call.
The information is reported at vessel level, not separately for each waste type.
Port of last waste delivery DE-068-01
Search for and select the port (UN/LOCODE) where any type of waste was most recently delivered.
Port of next waste delivery DE-068-02
Search for and select the port (UN/LOCODE) where the vessel next intends to deliver waste.
If the next port of waste delivery is not yet known, use code ZZUKN.
If the port is located in a non-EU country and the exact port is not known, use code XX888, where XX is the ISO country code of the destination country.
The information is reported at vessel level, not separately for each waste type.
Waste Material
Complete this section with waste to be delivered and waste remaining on board by waste type. Each waste type must be reported on a separate row.
The same Waste type should be reported only once. If different specifications are required for the same Waste type, use the Waste description field to distinguish the entries.
Waste type DE-071-01
Select the type of waste to be delivered from the vessel or retained on board.
If Waste type is 201, 202, 203, 204, 510, 511 or 999, Waste description (DE-071-02) must also be completed.
Each Waste type should be reported only once. If the same Waste type requires an additional description, such as for category X/Y/Z substances or cargo residues, the combination of Waste type and Waste description (DE-071-02) must be unique. For example, if the vessel is delivering two different category X substances, add two rows with code 201 and descriptions such as “gasoline” and “toluene”.
Waste description DE-071-02
Provide a more detailed description of the waste being delivered.
The description is mandatory when Waste type is 201, 202, 203, 204 (noxious liquid substance), 510, 511 (dry cargo residues) or 999 (other waste).
Provide the proper shipping name of the substance or cargo exactly as stated in the transport documents. For other waste, describe clearly what type of waste is involved.
Waste maximum dedicated storage capacity DE-071-04
Enter the vessel's maximum dedicated storage capacity for this type of waste in cubic metres (m³). The value must be 0 or greater. Use value 0 when the vessel cannot store this type of waste.
Waste estimated amount to be generated volume DE-071-07
Enter the estimated volume of waste in cubic metres (m³) expected to be generated between the current port call and the next port of waste delivery. Use value 0 when no such waste is expected to be generated during the voyage.
Waste amount retained volume DE-071-05
Enter the volume of waste in cubic metres (m³) that will remain on board after the waste reported in the notification has been delivered to the port. Use value 0 when no waste of that type will remain on board during the voyage.
If waste remains on board, also report the Port of delivery of remaining waste (DE-071-06).
Waste amount to be delivered volume DE-071-03
Enter the volume of waste in cubic metres (m³) that will be delivered to the port. Use value 0 when no waste of that type will be delivered during the current port call.
This is an estimated amount. The actual amount received is reported in the WAR notification field Received waste amount (DE-071-08).
Port of delivery of remaining waste DE-071-06
Search for and select the port (UN/LOCODE) where the waste remaining on board is intended to be delivered at a later stage.
If the future port of waste delivery is not yet known, use code ZZUKN. If the port is located in a non-EU country and the exact port is not known, use code XX888, where XX is the ISO country code of the destination country.
