The deployment of the pilot phase of NEMO has begun

Data

The acceptance testing of the Finnish Maritime Single Window NEMO has been completed, and the four-year development work has progressed to the deployment of the pilot phase: Ports, authorities and the designated pilot organisations successfully deployed NEMO on 1 October. NEMO is one of the first national systems to be deployed in accordance with the European Maritime Single Window Regulation (EMSW Regulation, EU 2019/1239), with an aim to harmonise the methods of submitting ship reporting notifications to the authorities throughout the EU.

A wide range of Finnish maritime operators have participated in building the Finnish Maritime Single Window NEMO: ports, port operators, shipping companies, ship brokers, forwarding agencies, transport companies and authorities.

“NEMO has been built in Finland together with ports, authorities and the entire field of operators. Over the past four years, we have carried out a major digital reform: we have built data mobility, interfaces and automation in a way that changes how maritime traffic data can be utilised. Now that the pilot phase has been successfully launched, the experiences we gain from it will provide us with an excellent basis to move towards the wider deployment of the system, which will take place on 1 January,” says Miikka Kälvinmäki, Development Manager at Fintraffic's Vessel Traffic Services.

The next phase is being prepared in close cooperation with the users. The ongoing NEMO training provides a good opportunity to prepare for the more extensive deployment starting on 1 January 2027.

In the current pilot phase, NEMO and Portnet are used in parallel. When NEMO is expanded for all notifiers on 1 January 2027, Portnet will be removed from service.
